Explanation

This is roughly equivalent to converting the input $E_{1}, E_{2}$ , where $E_{1} \in ([80_{h} \dots {AD}_{h}] \cup [{B0}_{h} \dots {FE}_{h}])$ and $E_{2} \in ([40_{h} \dots {7E}_{h}] \cup [80_{h} \dots {FE}_{h}])$ , to a Shift_JIS representation $S_{1}, S_{2}$ using the following formulae, and then interpreting the result as the ASCII-based variant of CCSID 943. If the input is actually EUC-JP without JIS X 0212, i.e. if $E_{1} \in ([{8E}_{h}] \cup [{A1}_{h} \dots {FE}_{h}])$ and $E_{2} \in [{A1}_{h} \dots {FE}_{h}]$ , then this is equivalent to interpreting it as an EUC-JP variant. Other byte pairs effectively become nonstandard duplicate representations of JIS X0208 or JIS X0201 characters. Contrast CCSID 20932 (Microsoft).
